Quick answer: lower the volume, select the speaker or subwoofer you want to test, and begin with 60 Hz. Try nearby tones once, then use the sweep if needed. Do not increase the volume simply because a very low tone is quiet or absent.

What this bass and subwoofer test does

The buttons ask the browser to generate sine tones from 20 to 120 Hz. The sweep changes the requested oscillator frequency continuously across that range. This can help you compare routing, audible output and repeatable rattles at the same device volume.

The page does not request microphone access, so it cannot measure sound-pressure level, frequency response, distortion or the lowest frequency your equipment reproduces. It is a playback reference, not calibrated test equipment.

How to test bass safely

  1. Set the device, amplifier or powered speaker volume low before starting.
  2. Select the intended output and disconnect Bluetooth devices you do not want to test.
  3. Begin with 60 Hz. If using headphones, keep them off your ears for the first tone.
  4. Play each nearby frequency once at the same volume. Stop if you hear heavy distortion, mechanical knocking or an uncomfortable level.
  5. Confirm any suspected issue with familiar audio and the equipment maker's setup guidance.

How to interpret the result

No sound at the lowest tones

This does not prove a fault. The selected output, speaker size, enclosure, amplifier, device processing, room and your hearing can all affect what is audible. Do not keep raising the volume to force a result.

A rattle repeats at one frequency

Lower the volume and repeat once. Check for a loose object or surface near the speaker, then compare familiar audio. This browser cannot tell whether the source is the room, enclosure, connection or driver.

The sweep changes in loudness

That is expected in an uncontrolled listening check. A browser tone and your ears do not provide a calibrated frequency-response measurement.

Nothing plays at any frequency

Check media volume and output routing, then use the speaker and sound test. If every app is silent, follow the operating system or device maker's audio troubleshooting.

Keep the level controlled

The World Health Organization advises limiting loud-sound exposure and keeping personal-device volume below 60% of maximum. That percentage is only a precaution: this page cannot know the actual acoustic level produced by your source, amplifier and output device. Begin lower, keep each tone short and stop for discomfort, pain or ringing.
